Name: Bjørn Knudsen
Age: 26
Job: Leader 3D Norge
Country: Norway
Web site: www.3d-norge.no
3DA: Why have you decided to work in 3d-field and when have you started?
BK: I actually studied economics and was never interested in 3D before a friend of me asked if I want to start sell 3d projects for them. I did it very well as salesmen, and after couple of years I started 3D Norge and since I knew very much people in the branch, I got projects all from 1 day. I got in contact with good people in all over world to help me make my “ style “ and every designer that I corporate with know what 3D Norge`s customer wants.
3DA: Describe to our readers your usual workflow
BK: In the start of 3D Norge`s history the first step was to sell projects. To bring in projects so my workers/designers have work to do. So my mission was not price, it was workflow. But now customers knows us, and they use to send in projects every month. We have around 10-35 projects each month, so its not always I work on all projects myself, but I use to mange many of them. Sometimes I make the modeling, while sometime I delegate to my fantastic designers which I have chose all by my self.
3DA: What was most difficult for you when you just started working in 3D? And what is now?
BK: Both in the start and now and it will always be the same is changes. Customer always come with extra work and changes which is not considered and that makes our program difficult. If we say we will use 5 days on this projects, it usually end with 15 days. Understanding each other is very important in my work. Both with designers, customers and opponents. If the project would be accepted at first attempt everybody would be successful.
3DA: Looking back on your education process what you would have changed now? And what you consider right and would do exactly the same?
BK: I would have changed some of the people I’ve been working with. I was fresh in the game, and did not a have such a good name in the start. Now everybody knows me and know that 3D Norge deliveres good work. We weekly get mail/messages from good designers want to work for us. In the end it’s the way customer look at you which is important. And we have a good reputation, and if I would start a new studio my first goal was to keep a good reputation. We think hounesty is the most important in our work.
3DA: Which was the biggest problem that you faced working on a project and how have you solved it?
BK: I got a project from Norway`s biggest house builder for couple of month ago, but I didn’t have capacity my self, so I gave to some of my designers in Poland. They understood the situation plan wrong and we got out of deadline. The customer was angry and gave us new deadline. But I wanted to keep customer and designer happy. So I told my designer: Make the deadline and you will get the whole price from the customer. So they did it, and they got it all.
3DA: What forecast you can make about the future of 3d-world in general?
BK: I think the 3D marked have a bright future, but I think the freelancers need to take more project and work mote to maintain the income. Some of the actors in the marked have very low prices. In long term it will be hard to survive on simple 3d, something which was easy some years ago. So my advice to all the designers and actors of the 3D world; keep up the quality so we can keep up the price aspect. We are artists and artist don’t give away work. 3D will be more and more used by the user ( builders/entrep/architects/estate and even normal people who want to see their houses ).
