3DA: Why have you decided to work in 3d-field and when have you started?
PKR: I am a civil engineer, but my childhood ambition was to become an architect. When I started to study about architecture after graduation, I decided to learn 3D-softwares and graphic tools to present my designs. I kind of just enjoyed working in 3D as a hobby almost.I started working in 3ds Max in the year 2011. In 2012 I started working as freelance 3D artist. On january 15th 2013, I started my design studio, ILLUSION ATELIER in Coimbatore. I feel very fortunate to be working in this industry and I hope to for a long time.

3DA: Describe to our readers your usual workflow
PKR: Once I recieve the finalised plan from clients, I will start right into modeling. This could be considered sketch modeling, nothing specific is built. The point here is to set mood, texture and design intent. Once I am happy with the basic concept, I then move to model more detail and build the model up to a higher level of refinement. At that time it is time to texture, light and set the camera angle.I use autocad-3D, 3ds Max for modeling , Vray for rendering and photoshop for post-production. Plugins which i use are Multi-Scatter, Forest Pack Pro & siger shader.
The workflow is very different for me for an architecture firm client than for a real estate development firm client. For an architecture firm client the approach is to collaborate with them to solve the problems of what they need to show their client to make everyone happy and love the design and typically this needs to happen within a tight schedule.
For a real estate development client the schedule is not usually an issue – the real task is to come up with creative design ideas for the project, which is easier said than done obviously.

3DA: What was most difficult for you when you just started working in 3D?and what is now?
PKR: Composing a view and lighting was difficult initially, then I sorted out it by constant practice. Now I have few difficulties with projects with complex particle systems, like smoke, water, fire.

3DA: Looking back on your education process what you would have changed now? And what you consider right and would do exactly the same?
PKR: I studied civil engineering and this helps me a lot in both designing, architectural rendering and even to solve the structures which I design. I am concentrating on interior design projects right
now, and 3D tools helps me to visualize my ideas.I would like to study architectural photography, design theory in future.

3DA: Which was the biggest problem that you faced working on a project and have you solved it?
PKR: Short deadlines can be a problem, and time management. I usually have 6-8 projects going at the same time, so I often find myself running between my computers. Another challenging part was learning a new workflow. I get a lot of DWG from my clients; I had to find an effective way of getting that data into mood and how to model from that. The DWG’s are 2D, so it can be tricky sometimes to construct 3D from that. CAD drawings can be dense with a lot of lines and detail, so it was difficult in the beginning to figure out what was what.
